Another overcast morning.  High 30s predicted for later today.  I checked to see if Punxsutawney Phil at Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania saw his shadow, and he did not.  That's supposed to indicate an early arrival of spring.  According to the Stormfax Almanac, Phil has been right 39% of the time, going back to his first prediction in 1887.

When it comes to weather predictions, I'm a skeptic.  Meteorologists are the only group that can get away with predicting a 50% chance of rain.  What doesn't have a 50% chance of happening or not happening?

Am watching the trial of the Oxford School Shooter's mother.  Gotta say that the defense attorney doesn't impress me.  She apologized to the court for getting frustrated with her computer and having said in open court, "I'm going to kill myself."  The courtroom demeanor has certainly plummeted from what it was like back in the 1960 and 1970s.

Besides it being Groundhog Day, did you know that it was February 2, 1852, when London, England, opened the world's first public flushing toilet?  We could all live without knowing this, but one never knows when one might need a bit of astounding trivia!

My next door neighbor just left.  She picked up the tea project pictures.  The boyfriend was asked to glue a broken teapot handle, so she picked that up, too.  She lived in Israel for a few years and showed us a picture of how street tea vendors carried a samovar on their backs and poured tea on the streets.  I'd never seen or

heard of that before.  Here's a picture that I found online of what she was talking about.

A quiet day.  At 5 we're going to Buffy's house for drinks and a visit.  Until then, I'll be in the courtroom tolerating the annoying decline in this particular courtroom.  It's not every school shooting where the parents are each charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter.  I'll wait to share my thoughts about whatever the jury's verdict is in the mother's case.  Yesterday the mother took the stand to testify.

  1. TC here: Our Groundhog Baby, as we call her, is 17 today. She's Burgundy's older girl.
I have seen pics of street vendors in Israel but didn't know it was tea they were carrying.
Hard to believe we're into February. I agree. Where did January go? Didn't we just have Christmas?
Time changes in a month. Wow. We have green lawns except where snow was plowed up. Sunshiny weekend and high 30's, low 40" predicted for the weekend. This IS February for heaven's sake. If we're going to have winter, let's have it and get it over with. Something to this global warming.

  2. P.S.: Snow was hauled in to the Fairgrounds for the track and banks. Then it rained and has rained a lot. All that money and our Snowmobile Races are cancelled,

  3. Couldn't agree more. If we're having winter, bring it on! Sorry to hear about the snowmobile races being canceled after all work and money. Our weather has definitely changed in less than a lifetime. The news is talking about a severe storm warning for California tomorrow.
