FINLAND ARTIST

Pekka Halonen, artist from Finland, painted the Finnish landscape.

In this first work, we see how he captured the stillness of freshly fallen snow.  The colors are relaxing and serene.

Juniper Tree in Snow - 1917
~Pekka Halonen
 (Finland, 1865-1933)

Nature has many scenes to exhibit, and constantly draws a curtain over this part or that.  She is constantly repainting the landscape and all surfaces, dressing up some scene for our entertainment.  Lately we had a leafy wilderness; now bare twigs begin to prevail, and soon she will surprise us with a mangle of snow.  Some green she thinks so good for our eyes that, like blue, she never banishes it entirely from our eyes, but has created evergreens.  ~Henry David Thoreau, Nov. 8, 1858.

Another of Halonen's works features a log cabin, birch trees with its branches filled with little birds......

Titmice in Birch Trees - 1900
*The name 'titmouse' comes from the Old English words tit and mase, meaning small bird.  What is the message of the titmouse?  Well, we may think that our contributions or abilities are mere gifts, but they impact and empower others in ways that we may not be aware of.  Sometimes without even trying, our actions make a difference to another person in this world of chaos and craziness.

The Titmouse

Though cardinals flash, and waxwing's loud

the Titmouse isn't very proud

this pious bird with crest and shroud

will preach the word so you can hear

his daggers pierce the tender ear

then catch the wind and disappear.
